On September 25, GreenBridge joined the Ata Manobo community in Talaingod for the 2nd Heirloom Rice Festival, celebrating the rice varieties they have cultivated and kept alive across generations.
The festival is still young, but what it celebrates has a much longer history.
These heirloom varieties carry generations of knowledge about seeds, land, seasons, and farming. Seeing them gathered and celebrated also reminds us why their continued cultivation matters, and why the farmers who keep them growing should have opportunities to benefit from their value.
This is also where GreenBridge sees an opportunity to contribute.
We want to work alongside farmers and communities in creating stronger pathways from farm to market: developing value-added products, supporting local processing, building market partnerships, and helping locally grown products reach more people.
And soon, one of those efforts will take its first step into the market.
Our first GreenBridge product is being developed from what is already grown by the communities we work with. We’re excited to share more about it soon, and even more excited about what it could open up for the farmers behind it.
For now, we celebrate the heirloom rice, the people who continue to grow it, and another year of the festival that brings everyone together around it.
Daghang salamat to the Ata Manobo community of Talaingod for welcoming us.
